For those of you who have not heard about our visit this weekend, I wanted to post some pictures captured by the Sheriff early Sunday morning. This is the front entrance of the Darby Public Library and as you can see, we had a special visitor!

Smokey Wants a Library Card
Summer Reading at an End
The Summer Reading Program at the Darby Public Library is coming to an end tomorrow. This summer the library offered a lot of great programs and a reading game for all ages. We will be announcing prize winners tomorrow afternoon. Here is some highlights of this summer at your library.
Creation Stations
The Darby Public Library has had two Creation Station events, one on Tuesday June 28th and one on Tuesday July 13th. We will be having one more this summer on July 27th. At these events, kids are encouraged to explore their creative sides with three art activities that explore the theme “Make a Splash.” The children seem to have a lot of fun and make very original creations. Here are some pictures from the first two events.

Summer Reading Program Kickoff Carnival
On Saturday, we set up carnival games throughout the library and invited children of all ages to come and play.
We had a duck pond, a prize wheel, a bean bag toss, pin the pants on Spongebob, a ring toss and face painting.

We had quite a few families show up and I think they had a good time.

At 2, Uncle Curly came and did some magic and balloon art

The day was quite a success. We got lots of sign ups for the Summer Reading Program (which you can come in and sign up for now) and everyone had a good time. One mom told me she heard her three-year-old laugh in the way he used to at one. And, this morning a boy came in and told me that he had a great time at the carnival. Hopefully next year’s carnival will be even bigger!
Friend of the Darby Library Open House
On Saturday, April 24, the Friends of the Darby Library hosted an Open House. The Forest Service was kind enough to rearrange Smokey the Bear’s schedule, so he was able to stop by.
We also had Dick Estler demonstrating fly-tying at the library’s fly-tying desk.

Although we would have loved for more people to be there, we had fun watching the experts work their magic with flies and Smokey gave us all some goodies. We also had door prizes and almost everyone who came to the open house got something to take home.
Make sure to keep an eye on the library’s calendar for any other upcoming events.
Montana Library Association Conference

I was lucky enough to go to the 2010 Montana Library Association Conference in Bozeman. It was my first time visiting the city of Bozeman and I was really impressed with their new library. If anyone is in the area, they should really stop by and check it out. Besides touring the city’s beautiful library, I also met some great colleagues and hear some amazing speakers. I took home some great ideas that I plan to use here at our library.
Darby Public Library Easter Egg Hunt 2010
Library Board members and staff got to the park early to help the Easter Bunny hide eggs.

After a countdown from ten, the kids took off to find their eggs.

We had quite a crowd

Some of the eggs had a ticket for a special prize inside!
